Book Bash

The fine print

Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Book Bash is a product of Zincan LLC, a limited liability company registered in North Carolina, United States (“Zincan”, “we”, “our”, “us”). This policy explains how we collect, use and safeguard personal information when you use the Book Bash website at bookba.sh, the Book Bash mobile app, and the emails and texts we send on behalf of book clubs.

Questions: hello@bookba.sh.

2. Information we collect

  • Your account. Name, email and/or mobile number, and time zone. Signing in is passwordless: we send a one-time magic link to your email or phone. Hosts may optionally set a password.
  • Club rosters. When a host adds someone to a club, we store their name and the email or phone number the host provides, plus their notification preferences. Contact details are write-only in the product: other members never see them.
  • What your club does. Books and reading schedules, meetups and RSVPs, nominations and votes, comments, reactions and photos you post in a club’s discussion.
  • Reading check-ins. The page, percentage or chapter you report. Check-ins are private to you until you explicitly agree to share them with your club, and you can change that at any time. We also use your latest position to power Spoiler Guard.
  • Billing. If a host buys Book Bash Pro, payment is handled by Stripe. We receive the subscription status and the last four digits of the card, never the full card number.
  • Device data. IP address, browser or app version, and push-notification tokens, as needed to run the service, deliver notifications and diagnose errors.

3. How we use it

To run your book club: sign you in, deliver invitations and reminders on the channels you choose, show your club its reading schedule, RSVPs, Shelf and discussion, tally ballots, and improve the product.

Text messages. We text a number only after its owner opts in — by replying YES to a club’s first message, using the form on our SMS opt-in page, or texting YES to our number. Sign-in links sent by text are sent only when you request one. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help.

4. AI features

Some optional features — book search help, discussion questions, roster tidying, and drafting announcements for a host to approve — use a large language model provided by Anthropic. We send only what the feature needs: book details, club reading schedules, and, for a member, nothing beyond the point they have read. We never send email addresses or phone numbers to the model, except within a host’s own roster import, and AI never counts votes or decides a ballot.

5. Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share it with processors who help us operate the service — hosting, email delivery (Postmark), text delivery (Twilio), push delivery (Expo), payments (Stripe), AI (Anthropic) and error reporting — under terms that limit their use to providing that service. Within a club, members see each other’s names, RSVPs, comments and — only with consent — reading progress. Votes are shown by name only when the host runs a named ballot.

Book links. Book pages link to Bookshop.org, Amazon and your local library. Some of those links carry affiliate codes, so we may earn a small commission if you buy; the stores receive the click, not your Book Bash account details. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

6. Retention

Account data lasts until you delete your account. When you leave a club, your roster entry is removed; comments you posted stay in the thread unless you delete them. Invitation and sign-in links expire. You can ask us to delete a record by emailing hello@bookba.sh.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, or to opt out of texts (reply STOP) and emails (use the unsubscribe link). Contact us at the address above. See also our Terms of Service.
